Jharkhand Begins Wildlife Census Using Technology
Jharkhand has started counting wild animals in its forests.
This happens every four years to see how many animals are there.
They are using special apps, cameras, and even looking for animal footprints and droppings.
The count is happening in many forests, including important places like the Palamu Tiger Reserve.
Over 1,600 people are helping with this big task.
They started on December 15 and will use apps until December 22.
After that, they will continue counting with help from people until April 2026.
India has a lot of tigers, and they hope to find even more this time.
Jharkhand began its wildlife census on December 15, 2023, using mobile apps and camera traps for data collection.
The census covers 31 territorial forest areas and 5 protected forest areas, including the Palamu Tiger Reserve and Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.
The exercise is guided by the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Wildlife Institute of India.
The census involves both technology and manual methods, including collecting animal droppings and noting footprints.
The app-based census will continue until December 22, followed by human-assisted counting until April 2026, involving 1,600 forest personnel and volunteers.
