HC Grants Bail to Alleged LeT Operative in 2010 Nashik Terror Plot Case
A man named Bilal, who was arrested in 2010 for allegedly spying on important security places in Nashik, has been granted bail by the Bombay High Court.
He was in jail for over a decade while waiting for his trial.
The court said he could be released on bail because he had been in jail for a very long time and another person in a similar case had also been granted bail.
The court also said he must follow certain rules, like telling the police where he lives and going to court when needed.
The police said he was part of a banned group and had important training in making bombs, but the court still decided to grant him bail.
The Bombay High Court granted bail to an alleged LeT operative, Shaikh Lalbaba Mohammed Hussain alias Bilal, who was arrested in 2010 for allegedly conducting reconnaissance of security establishments in Nashik.
Bilal was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Explosive Substances Act, and Passport Act.
The bail was granted on the grounds of prolonged incarceration and parity with a similar case where bail was granted.
The ATS opposed the bail, stating that Bilal played a key role in the crime and the trial is at a crucial stage.
The court set a bail amount of Rs. 1 lakh and imposed conditions including reporting to the ATS office and attending trial court.
