Proper Matka Cleaning: Ditch Soap, Embrace Tradition
A matka is a clay pot that keeps water cool and tastes good.
To clean it, don't use soap because it soaks into the clay.
Before using a new matka, wash it and soak it in water for a day.
Change the water every day to keep it fresh.
Clean the inside with hot water, lemon juice, or a special brush, then let it dry in the sun.
Clay pots, or matkas, naturally cool water and add an earthy flavor.
Avoid using soap to clean clay pots, as they are porous and absorb chemicals.
Before first use, wash the pot and submerge it in water for 24 hours.
Change the water in the matka daily to prevent staleness and bacterial growth.
Clean the interior with hot water or lemon juice, scrub gently, and dry in sunlight.
