Nadda Meet Exposes BJP’s Reservation Dilemma and Outreach

Nadda Meet Exposes BJP’s Reservation Dilemma and Outreach

A group of mostly upper-caste young people protested against caste-based reservation.

They want opportunities to depend more on how much money a family has.

The group met Union Minister J.P. Nadda after a protest at Jantar Mantar.

Nadda publicly said the meeting was friendly and that they would talk again, but he did not explain what was discussed.

The protesters said Nadda listened to them and promised that the government would consider their requests.

They said they do not want to take away the rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes.

They also want the creamy layer removed from reservation benefits.

BJP leaders are concerned that unhappy upper-caste voters could affect the party in future elections, particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
