E-bus tender delayed due to court case
The biggest tender for electric buses in India, which is part of the PM E-DRIVE scheme, has been delayed.
The delay happened because a company called Ashok Leyland asked for more time due to a court case.
The court case is about a technical problem that Ashok Leyland's subsidiary, OHM Global Mobility, had when trying to submit their bid.
The government agency in charge of the tender, CESL, says the bid was not successfully submitted.
The court is looking into the technical issue, and because of this, the results of the tender are on hold.
Many companies, like Tata Motors and Olectra, had bid for the tender, and the delay is worrying them because it might affect the government's plans to have more electric buses in cities.
The largest e-bus tender under PM E-DRIVE scheme, covering 10,900 vehicles, has been delayed due to a court case involving Ashok Leyland's subsidiary, OHM Global Mobility.
CESL, the government agency handling the tender, missed the December 19 deadline to announce the winners after Ashok Leyland requested a deferral.
OHM Global Mobility claims a technical issue prevented them from submitting their bid, while CESL maintains the bid was not successfully submitted.
The Delhi High Court has sought an affidavit from the portal manager and directed IIT Delhi to examine the alleged technical failure.
The delay has raised concerns among manufacturers about prolonged delays affecting the government's plans to expand electric public transport fleets.
