Army to Vacate 147 Kanals at Jammu University After Land Swap
Jammu University had a piece of land next to its campus that the Army was using.
The Army and the government decided to swap land.
The Army will give up 147 kanals and get a bigger piece of land elsewhere.
This lets the university build more classrooms and labs.
The Vice‑Chancellor said it was a historic step for the school.
The Indian Ministry of Defence approved a land exchange allowing the Army to vacate 147 kanals adjacent to Jammu University’s main campus.
In return, the Army will receive 2,062 kanals and 17 marlas in Nagrota tehsil and 62 kanals in Jammu tehsil.
The exchange resolves a land dispute that began in 1973 when the state government allotted the land to the university.
Jammu University’s Vice‑Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai called the decision a “historic step” and praised the cooperation of national leaders.
The university plans to use the newly acquired land for expanding academic, research, and student facilities.
