Proposed Farm Storage Plan Targets Food Loss and Waste

Proposed Farm Storage Plan Targets Food Loss and Waste

A lot of food is lost or wasted in one year.

The article says ₹1 trillion would still not be enough to match that loss.

One proposed solution is to build more places to store crops.

The plan would add 70 million tonnes of storage capacity.

It would take five years and cost ₹1.25 trillion.

Primary Agricultural Credit Societies would help create the storage facilities.

The facilities could also provide equipment and sell goods at fair prices.

Warehouse receipts could let farmers borrow money using stored grain, so they would not have to sell it cheaply right away.
