Trump Venezuela Oil Deal Gives Pentagon Stake in Fields

The United States and Venezuela have made a large agreement about producing oil.

A Venezuelan company called North American Blue Energy Partners would help run the project.

The Pentagon would own 35% of the new company.

The project would cover 17 oil fields with about 65 billion barrels of proven reserves.

The Venezuelan company says it will spend $100 billion building and repairing oil infrastructure.

The United States could buy some of the oil at cost.

Experts say Venezuela’s damaged equipment means production may take years to increase.

Some lawmakers are questioning whether the military should be part of a private oil business.

President Donald Trump says the deal may eventually reduce gasoline prices, but not right away.
