Canada Sees 60% Drop in International Student Arrivals
Canada has seen a big drop in the number of international students and temporary workers coming into the country.
This is because the government has set limits on how many students can come each year and made the rules stricter.
They did this to help with housing and job problems.
The number of students with study permits has gone down a lot, and the government is also changing the rules for students who want to work after they finish their studies.
This means fewer students are coming to Canada to study and work.
Canada experienced a 60% decline in international student arrivals between January and October 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
The decline in international students amounts to 1,53,820 fewer students, while temporary workers saw a 48% decline, totaling 1,69,435 fewer workers.
The Canadian government introduced an annual cap of 3.60 lakh study permits in 2024 to stabilize growth and address housing and infrastructure pressures.
As of October 31, 2025, 4,84,090 people hold a study permit, with a sharp decline from 11,360 in September 2025 to 3,030 in October 2025.
Changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program have also contributed to the slowdown, restricting eligibility to certain programs and institutions.
