German city removes surfers' wave-creating beam
In a park in Germany, there was a big wave in a river that people loved to surf on.
But the wave went away when the city cleaned the river.
Some surfers secretly put a big beam in the river to make the wave come back.
They even put up a sign that said 'Just Watch.
Merry Christmas!'.
The city didn't like this and took the beam away.
The city is now working with an expert to find a safe way to bring the wave back.
Sadly, there was a surfing accident in May where someone died, which made the city more worried about safety.
City workers removed a beam that surfers secretly placed to recreate a surfable wave in the Eisbach river.
The wave disappeared after city workers cleared sediment from the riverbed in October.
Surfers enjoyed several days of surfing after the beam was installed on Christmas Day.
The city removed the beam due to safety concerns and lack of authorization.
An engineering professor has been consulted to find a safe solution for restoring the wave.
