Punjab Speaker Seeks Chandigarh in Arms License Jurisdiction
The speaker of Punjab's government, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, wrote a letter to the country's home minister, Amit Shah.
He asked for a change in the law about gun licenses.
Right now, people from Punjab need a special permission to carry their licensed guns in Chandigarh, which is the capital city.
The speaker said this causes unnecessary delays and trouble for Punjab residents.
He wants the law to be changed so that Punjab gun licenses are also valid in Chandigarh.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He urged amendments to the Arms Act to include Chandigarh in Punjab's arms license jurisdiction.
Current rules require Punjab residents to get separate permission to carry licensed arms in Chandigarh.
Sandhwan argued that this causes unnecessary bureaucratic delays and inconvenience.
Chandigarh continues to function as the capital of Punjab.
