Camus Quote: Life Is Meaningless, But Worth Living
Albert Camus was a famous writer and thinker from France.
He wrote about a big question: does life have a meaning?
He said the universe doesn't give us a special purpose.
This idea is called 'the Absurd.'
It sounds sad, but Camus thought it was freeing.
If nobody tells you what to do, you get to choose what matters to you.
He said life is still worth living even without a big cosmic meaning.
He believed we should enjoy small things like family, friends, and hobbies.
A famous quote is often shared with his name, but it's actually a short version of his book The Myth of Sisyphus.
Camus won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957.
The quote 'Life is meaningless, but worth living, provided you recognise it's meaningless' is widely attributed to Albert Camus but is actually a condensed summary of his 1942 essay The Myth of Sisyphus.
Camus's philosophy of the Absurd describes the conflict between humanity's desire for meaning and an indifferent, meaningless universe.
Camus argued that accepting life's lack of inherent meaning is liberating and that one should live passionately in defiance of the absurd.
The authentic Camus quote expressing this sentiment is: 'The realisation that life is absurd cannot be an end, but only a beginning.'
Albert Camus (1913–1960) was a French-Algerian philosopher and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate (1957), known for works including The Stranger and The Plague.
