Satheesan Government Struggles for Direction After Kerala’s First 100 Days

Kerala’s new Congress-led government has completed its first 100 days.

It has not yet made as many major policy decisions as some people expected.

Disagreements inside the ruling alliance have slowed decisions about education, the Waqf Board and government appointments.

Opposition parties have criticised the government from different directions.

The CPI(M) says it is too close to the Sangh Parivar, while the BJP says it depends too much on Muslim organisations.

The government has started an anti-drug campaign called Operation Toofan.

It has also introduced free bus travel for women on ordinary state-run bus services.

The chief minister regularly speaks to the media and has tried to make the government more accessible.

However, he still faces disputes within his party, financial problems and questions about how strongly he controls the government.
