BJP-Congress Election Spending Gap Widens Sharply
India's elections are becoming more unequal.
The BJP and Congress have always spent money on elections, but the BJP is now spending much more than Congress.
In 2014-15, the BJP spent about Rs 925 crore, while Congress spent Rs 582 crore.
By 2024-25, the BJP's spending increased to Rs 3,355 crore, nearly four times what Congress spent (Rs 896 crore).
This big difference is important because modern elections need a lot of money for ads, travel, and communication.
Some people say money doesn't always win elections, but it helps a lot.
The BJP's much higher spending could make it harder for other parties to compete fairly.
This could change how elections work in India.
BJP's election spending has grown significantly from Rs 925 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 3,355 crore in 2024-25.
Congress's spending increased from Rs 582 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 896 crore in 2024-25.
In 2024-25, BJP spent nearly four times as much as Congress.
Modern campaigning requires sustained financial capacity for media outreach, advertising, and communication.
Financial power shapes election visibility and messaging, potentially narrowing democratic competition.
