Oklo Plans Alaska Microreactor at Air Force Base Under New Deal
A company called Oklo wants to build a small nuclear power plant for the Air Force in Alaska.
The government has agreed to buy power from this plant if it is built.
This plant is much smaller than regular ones, which makes it easier to build.
Oklo had a setback in 2022 when they were denied permission to operate the plant, but they are planning to ask again in 2025.
The goal is to provide electricity and heat for the base.
Oklo plans to build a micro nuclear power plant at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska.
The Defense Department issued a notice of intent for a power purchase agreement with Oklo.
The plant could produce up to 75 megawatts of electricity and heat.
Oklo was previously denied an operating license in 2022 and plans to reapply in late 2025.
