Telangana HC Orders Reconstitution of Animal Welfare Board
The Telangana High Court told the state government to quickly set up the Telangana State Animal Welfare Board again because it had expired.
A group called Humane Society International/India asked the court to make sure the government follows animal welfare laws.
They want the government to check pet shops and dog breeding centers to ensure they follow the rules.
The court said the board should be set up without delay if it hasn't been already.
The next hearing will happen in four weeks.
The state said they were working on it but the court wanted them to hurry up.
The Telangana High Court directed the state government to reconstitute the Telangana State Animal Welfare Board (TSAWB) without delay.
The order came in response to a petition by Humane Society International/India seeking strict enforcement of animal welfare laws.
The petitioner sought directions for the reconstitution and effective functioning of the TSAWB, whose term expired in 2022.
The court noted contradictions in the state's counter affidavit regarding the board's reconstitution and functionality.
