US Corporate Bankruptcies Surge to Pandemic High in July
In July 2025, more big US companies went bankrupt than in any month since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
The number of companies filing for bankruptcy increased to 71, compared to 66 the previous month.
So far this year, a total of 446 companies have filed for bankruptcy, which is the highest number in the last 15 years.
This is happening because companies are facing challenges like higher interest rates, problems with getting supplies, and uncertainty about tariffs.
While the Treasury yield has decreased, the costs of borrowing remain high.
US corporate bankruptcies in July hit the highest monthly level since 2020.
71 large companies filed for bankruptcy in July, up from 66 in June.
Year-to-date, 446 large companies have filed for bankruptcy, the most since 2010.
Rising interest rates, supply chain issues, and Trump tariff uncertainty are contributing factors.
The yield on the five-year Treasury note decreased to 3.96% at the end of July.
