Surat University Halts Distance Learning for Undergrads
Imagine a university in Surat that lets people study from home for their undergraduate degrees.
But, starting next year, they're stopping this for new students.
They are also changing the way postgraduate courses are structured.
This decision affects many students who work or have other commitments.
The university says this is because of a new education plan that requires students to do internships.
Some people think this is a bad idea because it helps people get ahead in life and education is good, but it could cause problems for some students.
Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) will discontinue external undergraduate courses from the next academic year.
The decision impacts students who pursue graduation while working.
In 2024-25, 6,490 students were enrolled in external undergraduate courses.
Students currently enrolled in external UG courses will be allowed to complete their programs.
The university cites the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 as the reason for the change.
