Cochin Shipyard to Build Electric Tugs for Svitzer
Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) in India has signed a deal with a Danish company called Svitzer to build special electric tugboats.
These tugboats, called TRAnsverse 2600e, are 26 metres long and run on batteries, which means they don’t produce harmful emissions when they’re working in harbours.
Svitzer is a big company that helps move ships around the world, and they want to use these new tugboats to make their fleet more modern and eco-friendly.
The first four tugboats will be built in Kochi, India, and are expected to be ready by late 2027 or early 2028.
There’s also an option to build up to four more tugboats in the future.
These tugboats are designed to work in tricky situations, like tight spaces and bad weather, and can handle all types of ships.
This deal shows that both companies are working together to make shipping more sustainable and efficient.
