India's Rupee Billionaires Surpass 500 in FY25
In India, the number of people who earned at least Rs 100 crore (which is 1 billion rupees) in the year 2024-2025 has gone up to 576.
This is a big increase from the 142 people who earned that much just four years ago.
The government said that there is no official definition of a billionaire in the tax laws.
Some people think this shows that India's economy is doing well, while others worry that it means a few people are getting much richer while others are not.
Number of rupee billionaires in India crossed 500 in FY25.
Increase of 39% from the previous year and 306% from AY 2021-22.
Assessment Year 2025-26 corresponds to April 2024 - March 2025.
No statutory definition of 'billionaire' under Income-tax Act.
