India: Arunachal border state will affect broader China ties

India and China are two big countries that share a mountain border, but they don't always agree about where the border is.

Reports say Indian and Chinese soldiers had several tense face-offs in July in a remote part of Arunachal Pradesh, a state in northeastern India.

India's foreign ministry said peace at the border is very important and what happens there will affect the two countries' overall relationship.

India and China are also trying to talk things out, and they held a special meeting about the border in New Delhi on August 6.

Around the same time, India gave official names to 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh.

China was unhappy about this because it claims that the area is "South Tibet" and has long wanted to use its own names.

India says Arunachal Pradesh is a permanent, non-negotiable part of India.

A big summit called BRICS is coming up in New Delhi, and China's president, Xi Jinping, is expected to visit.

Both countries want the border to stay peaceful and hope to keep improving their relationship.
