Gujarat HC halts Gamtal land demolition
In Gujarat, 11 land owners in Gamtal, Palanpur, went to the High Court because the government wanted to demolish a sanitation facility they built.
The owners said they have the right to use the land because they have a Sanad, which is like a special permission from the government.
The court agreed with them and said the government's action was too harsh and not legal.
The court told the government to stop the demolition until the next hearing on February 9.
The court also asked the government to explain why they took this action.
The land owners are happy because the court is protecting their rights.
Gujarat High Court directed status quo on demolition of a sanitation facility in Gamtal, Palanpur.
11 land owners petitioned the court, claiming the facility was built on land legally granted to them via Sanad.
Court found the action by the Taluka Development Officer (TDO) high-handed and illegal, as it was taken without proper measurement or authenticated documents.
The court noted that the sanitation facility was constructed under the government's Swachh Bharat Mission.
Next hearing scheduled for February 9, with the court directing the Talati-and-Mantri to file an affidavit justifying their actions.
