Hotel Fires Prompt Siliguri Safety Advisory After 18 Deaths
Two hotel fires in Tarapith and Calcutta killed at least 18 people.

After this, a hotel owners’ group in Siliguri warned its members to follow fire-safety rules immediately.
The group represents about 180 hotels in the Siliguri police commissionerate area.

Fire equipment such as alarms, extinguishers and sprinklers must work properly.
Three people who died in the Tarapith fire were taken back to their families in Alipurduar for cremation.

The Greater Siliguri Hotelier Welfare Association issued an immediate fire-safety advisory to its roughly 180 members.
Hotels were told to maintain valid fire-safety certificates and keep trade licences and other documents accessible for inspections.
The advisory requires emergency routes, exits, stairwells and evacuation areas to remain unlocked and unobstructed.
Hotel operators were also urged to check extinguishers, smoke detectors, alarms and sprinkler systems, while families in Alipurduar received the remains of three victims.
