UCC Transforms Marriage Registration in Uttarakhand
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand has been in effect for one year.
It has made it much easier for couples to register their marriages online.
Before the UCC, people had to go to an office in person to register their marriages, which took a long time.
Now, they can do everything online, and they get their marriage certificates in just five days on average.
Many people have used this new system, with over 4.7 lakh marriages registered in the first year.
The UCC has also allowed people to register live-in relationships and get certificates for their dissolution.
The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand says the UCC has set a good example for other states.
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand completed one year of implementation on January 27, 2026.
Over 4.7 lakh marriages have been registered under the UCC, with an average of 1,400 registrations per day, compared to 67 under the previous system.
The UCC allows couples to register their marriages online, eliminating the need for physical presence at the Sub-Registrar’s office.
Marriage registration certificates are issued within an average of five days under the UCC, compared to no fixed time limit previously.
The UCC has also facilitated the registration of 68 live-in relationships, the issuance of 316 marriage dissolution certificates, and 2 termination of live-in relationship certificates online.
