Chandigarh Hospital Left Crores Unused, Audit Flags Patient Welfare Failures

A hospital in Chandigarh had a large fund meant to help patients who cannot afford extra costs.

In 2024-25, it used only Rs 1.87 crore from Rs 40.44 crore available in that fund.

The remaining Rs 38.57 crore was not used for patient welfare.

The money could have helped with treatment, travel, food or a family member’s stay.

Government auditors said this defeated the purpose of the fund.

The hospital also bought 20 fingerprint scanners for Rs 20.40 lakh.

Most of the scanners stayed unused for years.

Hospital officials said spending required permissions and that biometric systems are now being installed where needed.
