Haiti Gang Attack Kills 47, Kidnaps 50, Testing Government Grip

Armed gangs attacked Kenscoff, a community near Haiti’s capital, on Sunday.

At least 47 people were killed, including five children.

More than 50 others were kidnapped.

A gang leader said the hostages could be killed if police hurt gang members.

The attack has raised questions about whether Haiti’s government and police can protect people.

Some survivors said there was not enough protection before the attack.

Haiti’s National Police rejected those accusations.

The United Nations says gang violence has killed thousands and displaced 1.5 million people this year.

The attack also comes as Haiti prepares for general elections.
