Fresh rains cause flooding in Jorabat
On July 18, heavy rains in Jorabat, near Guwahati, caused severe flooding on National Highway-27.
The waterlogging made it hard for vehicles to move, and many got stuck.
The traffic police had to divert traffic to different routes to reduce congestion.
People living there say this happens every year and want the government to find a permanent solution.
They also mentioned that cutting hills in Meghalaya makes the problem worse because it sends lots of water and mud down into Assam.
Later, a big tree fell on a car, blocking the road again and causing minor injuries to the people inside.
The residents hope that the Rs 150 crore allocated by the Chief Minister will help fix the problem.
Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding on NH-27 at Jorabat, disrupting traffic and stranding vehicles.
Traffic was diverted from Digaru and Koinadhara to ease congestion, affecting commuters between Guwahati, Upper Assam, and Meghalaya.
Residents allege that hill-cutting in Meghalaya exacerbates flooding by increasing surface runoff and clogging drainage systems.
A large tree fell on a moving car, blocking NH-27 and causing minor injuries to the occupants, including a child.
Residents urge a comprehensive scientific assessment and permanent engineering solutions to address the recurring flooding issue.
