Delhi Requests Haryana to Hand Over Yamuna Barrage Control
Delhi wants to be in charge of a specific part of the Yamuna River called the Indraprastha Barrage to help prevent flooding.
Right now, Haryana manages it, but Delhi is asking for control because some gates didn't work during last year's floods.
Delhi's leaders are worried about heavy rain coming and believe they need full control to act quickly in case of emergencies.
If Delhi gets control, it would join the Wazirabad barrage they already manage.
They will talk to Haryana to try and make this happen, as they think it's important to keep Delhi safe.
Delhi government will formally request Haryana to hand over control of the Indraprastha Barrage.
The move follows the flood crisis in Delhi in 2023.
Non-functional gates at the barrage worsened the flood situation last year.
Delhi currently controls the Wazirabad barrage, while Uttar Pradesh controls Okhla.
Delhi's Irrigation and Flood Control Minister will personally address the matter with Haryana.
