New Zealand's Luxon survives party confidence vote before election

New Zealand's Luxon survives party confidence vote before election

In New Zealand, the leader of the government is called the Prime Minister, and his name is Christopher Luxon.

He leads a political group called the National Party.

Some people in his group were wondering if he should still be the leader.

So Luxon called an urgent meeting with his party's lawmakers in Wellington.

During the meeting, they held a vote on whether he should stay.

Luxon won the vote, so he gets to keep his job — for now.

This was the second time this year that his leadership was tested.

The party is in a close race with another group called Labour, and a general election is coming on November 7.

Many people are unhappy because jobs are hard to find and prices have gone up.

Two other leaders, Chris Bishop and Erica Stanford, might take his place if the party decides to change.
