India Adds Two New Ramsar Sites
India now has 96 Ramsar sites, which are special wetlands protected by an international treaty.
Two new sites were added: Siliserh Lake in Rajasthan and Kopra Jalashay in Chhattisgarh.
Siliserh Lake is a man-made lake built in 1845 and is known for its birds and ecological importance.
Kopra Jalashay is Chhattisgarh's first Ramsar site and is important for water supply and supporting many bird species.
These sites help protect nature and can boost tourism and local livelihoods.
India is now third in the world for the number of Ramsar sites.
India's Ramsar sites increased to 96 with the addition of Siliserh Lake in Rajasthan and Kopra Jalashay in Chhattisgarh.
Siliserh Lake is the fifth Ramsar site in Rajasthan and is known for its ecological diversity and birdwatching opportunities.
Kopra Jalashay is Chhattisgarh's first Ramsar site and supports over 60 migratory bird species.
Both sites are man-made wetlands, with Siliserh Lake built in 1845 and Kopra Jalashay in 1993.
The Ramsar tag aims to strengthen conservation, protect heritage, and encourage eco-tourism.
