Weekend Sports Injuries Rise as India's Fitness Movement Grows

Weekend Sports Injuries Rise as India's Fitness Movement Grows

Many grown-ups in India love to play sports on the weekend, like cricket, badminton, or pickleball.

But because they sit at desks all week and play hard only on Saturday and Sunday, their bodies get surprised.

Doctors call this the 'weekend warrior' problem.

When the body is not used to exercise, sudden running and jumping can hurt muscles, ankles, and knees.

Some people get sprains or even torn knee ligaments.

The good news is that most of these injuries can be stopped.

Warming up with stretches for 10 to 15 minutes before playing helps a lot.

Playing a little bit all week, wearing good sports shoes, and resting when something hurts also keep you safe.

If someone gets hurt, resting, icing, compressing, and lifting the sore spot helps at first.

But if the pain is bad or the joint feels wobbly, they should see a doctor.
