ProClime, Cadira Launch $10M Biochar Carbon Removal Platform
ProClime and a Japanese investment firm called Cadira have teamed up to start a new project in India.
They will build seven factories that turn plants that grow too fast or leftover farm waste into a special charcoal called biochar.
This charcoal locks in the carbon that the plants absorbed, so it stays out of the air for a very long time.
The factories will also make useful products for soil and oil.
The project will create jobs for people in rural areas and help fix damaged land.
They plan to grow the project to 50 factories in the future.
The money for the project comes from Cadira, while ProClime will run the factories and make sure the carbon removal is real and certified.
The project is a partnership between India and Japan, and it could help companies that want to reach net‑zero emissions.
ProClime and Cadira Capital Management signed a memorandum to launch a $10 million, seven‑plant biochar carbon removal platform in India.
The plants will use invasive‑species and agricultural residues to produce carbon‑removal credits, biochar soil amendments, and bio‑oil, generating about 35,000 credits annually across six states.
The partnership will create local jobs, restore degraded land, and aims to scale to 50 plants and beyond.
Cadira will lead capital formation while ProClime handles feedstock, operations, community engagement, and credit certification under Puro.earth and Isometric.
The initiative is positioned as a Japan‑India bridge, with potential collaboration with Japanese firm TOWING to enhance the biochar value chain.
