Haryana Sanitation Workers’ Strike Continues Over Regularisation Demands

Haryana Sanitation Workers’ Strike Continues Over Regularisation Demands

Sanitation workers in Haryana have stopped working to press for changes in their jobs.

The strike began on August 6 and has continued into a second month.

The workers want 13,093 municipal workers to receive regular status.

They also want about 16,500 workers hired through contractors to be added to municipal rolls.

These contract workers help collect garbage from homes.

Because many workers are on strike, garbage has piled up in urban areas.

The government says it has already accepted 12 of the workers’ other demands.

However, talks have not ended the disagreement over the workers’ main demands.
