Govandi Residents Propose Metro Line 1 Extension
People living in Govandi, a part of Mumbai, have asked the government to extend the city's Metro Line 1.
This line currently goes from Versova to Ghatkopar.
They want it to be extended to Vashi, passing through Govandi and Mankhurd.
This would make it easier for people to travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, and also connect different train lines.
The group says this will help reduce traffic and make travel faster and easier for many people.
Right now, the Metro Line 1 is the busiest in Mumbai, carrying about half of all Metro passengers in the city.
Govandi residents propose extending Metro Line 1 from Ghatkopar to Vashi via Govandi and Mankhurd.
The AL Abbas Charitable Foundation supports the proposal, citing chronic congestion and long travel times in the eastern suburbs.
Metro Line 1 is currently the busiest in Mumbai, carrying 5 lakh passengers daily.
The extension aims to integrate Central, Western, and Harbour railway systems for seamless connectivity.
The proposal seeks to reduce pressure on arterial roads and boost economic activity and urban integration.
