Journalists Demand Media Commission and Stronger Press Protections

Journalists gathered in Mahabubnagar to ask the government to address issues affecting their work.

They were responding to a call from the Indian Journalists Union.

They want a Media Commission to consider changes in digital and broadcast media.

They also want a special law to protect press freedom.

They say newer labour codes have affected protections from older laws.

They asked for a new group to review journalists’ wages.

They said wages had not been revised since 2007.

They also want the government to act on promises about homes and housing sites for journalists.
