India's Record U20 Medal Haul Fueled by Corporate Sports Investment

India's Record U20 Medal Haul Fueled by Corporate Sports Investment

Three young athletes from India won medals at a big world competition for athletes under 20 years old, held in a city called Eugene in the United States.

They won two silver medals and one bronze medal, which is the most India has ever won at this competition.

The athletes came from very poor villages.

One boy, Basant, was jumping over a fence to avoid his teacher when the teacher discovered he was a natural jumper.

Another boy, Shahnavaz, trained on the muddy bank of a canal.

Their families borrowed money and worked very hard to support them.

Now, companies in India help pay for coaches, food, and equipment for young athletes, because successful athletes can become famous and earn money for sponsors.

Training one athlete can cost as much as 84 lakh rupees every year.

The companies hope that a few of these athletes will become Olympic champions, which would make their investment worth it.

So these medals prove that talent and support together can create champions.
