Kharge Challenges Modi’s 7.8% GDP Growth Celebration Over Jobs

Kharge Challenges Modi’s 7.8% GDP Growth Celebration Over Jobs

India said its economy grew by 7.8% between April and June.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated this as proof that the economy was strong.

He said India should keep growing and become more self-reliant.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge disagreed with that message.

He said many people still cannot find jobs and that everyday goods and fuel are expensive.

He also said the gap between rich and poor is becoming bigger.

Other Congress leaders questioned how the growth was measured and whether it helped most Indians.

The two sides are therefore presenting very different pictures of India’s economy.
