BJP Plans Protests Over Delayed Jammu and Kashmir Local Polls

BJP Plans Protests Over Delayed Jammu and Kashmir Local Polls

The BJP says Jammu and Kashmir should hold local elections soon.

These elections choose representatives for villages and towns.

BJP leader Sat Sharma accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government of delaying them because it expects to lose.

He said the party will hold protests in all 20 districts.

The BJP may also surround the Secretariat if an election schedule is not announced.

The article says village council terms ended in January 2024 and town council terms ended in November 2023.

Government officials have been managing these local bodies since then.

The government had said it would prefer to hold the elections after statehood is restored.

The BJP says local elections should not have to wait for that.
