Capgemini to sell US arm over ICE partnership
Capgemini is a big French IT company.
They have a part of their company in the US called Capgemini Government Solutions (CGS).
CGS had a contract with ICE, which is a US agency that deals with immigration.
Some people died during ICE operations, and many people around the world were upset.
They said Capgemini should not be working with ICE.
The French government also asked Capgemini to explain what they were doing.
Now, Capgemini has decided to sell CGS.
They said they couldn't control what CGS was doing, and they didn't want to be involved in this anymore.
The contract was worth $4.8 million, but it's a very small part of their overall business.
Some people are saying that CGS was working with ICE even before the contract was signed, but Capgemini says they didn't know about it.
This is a big deal for the company, and many employees are shocked.
Capgemini will sell its US subsidiary, Capgemini Government Solutions (CGS), due to backlash over its contract with ICE
The decision follows global outrage over two killings during ICE operations and scrutiny over the company's involvement with ICE
The contract with ICE, signed on December 18, 2023, is valued at $4.8 million, but CGS accounts for only 0.4% of Capgemini's projected 2025 global earnings and under 2% of its US revenue
Capgemini claims it was not aware of the contract until recently and that CGS operates independently with separate decision-making and firewalled networks
The Multinationals Observatory campaign group exposed the ICE-CGS partnership and alleges that CGS was providing services to ICE before the December contract
