Pune‑Bengaluru Highway Embankment Collapses Amid Construction
A part of a new road on the Pune‑Bengaluru highway fell down because it was still being built and the ground was wet from rain.
People living nearby were upset because they had complained about the road’s quality before.
The highway agency, NHAI, said the problem happened because the concrete wasn’t finished yet and the rain made the ground slippery.
They have stopped some workers and are fixing the broken part.
Cars can still drive on a side road, so traffic isn’t blocked.
A 7–10 m section of an under‑construction embankment on NH‑48 near Nippani collapsed after heavy rain.
The collapse happened while pavement concrete had not yet been laid and only partial dry‑lean concrete was in place.
Residents complained that quality problems had been raised since the start of the six‑lane widening and demanded accountability from NHAI and the contractor.
NHAI issued show‑cause notices, suspended the project director, bridge engineer and resident engineer, and is restoring the damaged section.
The incident caused no traffic disruption as vehicles were routed through a service road.
