Tomato Prices Crash, Leaving Kurnool Farmers in Distress

Tomato Prices Crash, Leaving Kurnool Farmers in Distress

Tomato farmers in and around Pattikonda are getting very little money for their crops.

Some reportedly receive only 50 paise for one kilogram of tomatoes.

Many farmers grew large amounts of tomatoes, but there were not enough buyers.

This caused too many tomatoes to reach the market at once.

Farmers also spent a lot on water, fertilisers, pesticides and workers.

Transporting the tomatoes to market can cost more than the money they earn from selling them.

Some farmers say leaving the tomatoes in the fields may be cheaper than harvesting them.

They want the government to buy tomatoes directly and help stop prices from falling further.
