EIB to increase defense lending in 2026
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is planning to lend more money for defense projects in 2026.
They will spend 4.5 billion euros on these projects, which is more than the 3.5 billion euros they spent in 2025.
This money will be used for things like military mobility, protecting borders, and anti-drone systems.
The EIB will also lend money to help tech companies in Europe grow.
They have a special program called the European Tech Champions Initiative, which has already helped nine companies become very successful, each worth over 1 billion euros.
The EIB hopes to get more countries to join this program.
Most of the bank's lending will go to projects that help fight climate change.
EIB plans to increase defense lending to 4.5 billion euros in 2026 from 3.5 billion euros in 2025.
Funding will focus on military mobility, critical infrastructures, Eastern border, and anti-drone systems.
Total lending in 2026 is planned at 100 billion euros, with more than half going to climate change projects.
EIB's 70 billion-euro scheme supports tech innovation, with nine companies already valued over 1 billion euros.
Six EU countries have contributed to the European Tech Champions Initiative, with more expected to join.
