Supreme Court Urges Centre to Appoint High Court Judges
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) is pushing the government to quickly approve people to be judges in high courts.
The Supreme Court is also dealing with complaints that the government is taking too long to make these appointments, even for people suggested back in 2019.
Lawyers are upset because these delays mean some people no longer want the job.
The CJI mentioned a potential judge from Delhi withdrew their name due to the long wait.
The court will hear these complaints in two weeks.
CJI Gavai stated the Supreme Court is urging the Centre to approve high court judge appointments.
Two petitions are seeking contempt proceedings against the government for delaying appointments.
Some names recommended by the collegium in 2019 are still pending.
