Russian Strikes Force Ukraine’s Largest Steel Plant to Shut

Russian attacks damaged Ukraine’s biggest steel plant.

The company said four strikes in five weeks made it unsafe to keep operating.

Five workers were killed at the plant.

The facility is in Kryvyi Rih in southeastern Ukraine.

It produced large amounts of steel and iron ore in 2025.

The company expects to record a charge of about $1 billion because of the shutdown.

ArcelorMittal is discussing the plant’s future with the Ukrainian government.

The company hopes to preserve the site so production might restart after peace returns.

Other Ukrainian steel plants have also been hit by attacks.
