Govt Seeks to Evict Nehru Memorial for PM Museum
The government wants the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (JNMF) to leave its space at the Teen Murti Estate.
This is because the government plans to build a museum about all of India's Prime Ministers there.
The government says JNMF doesn't have permission to be there and is in unauthorized occupation.
JNMF, however, has been using the space since 1967.
The government sent JNMF an eviction notice in 2018.
The JNMF challenged the notice, and the court has to decide if the government can make them leave.
The Centre wants the Delhi High Court to lift its stay on the eviction notice to JNMF.
The government states that the space is needed for the Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML).
The government argues JNMF is in 'unauthorised occupation' of the premises.
JNMF claims possession of the land since 1967.
The High Court posted the matter for further hearing next week.
