IIT Madras PhD Student Invents Borewell Rescue Device
A student named Sadham from IIT Madras invented a special tool to save children who fall into deep holes called borewells.
This happened because a little boy named Sujith died in such an accident in 2019.
Sadham's tool uses air and a camera to carefully lift the child out safely.
He made this tool with the help of his teachers and got a patent for it.
He hopes this tool will save more lives in the future.
Sadham comes from a farming family and always wanted to help people with science.
Sadham Usean Ramasamy, a PhD scholar at IIT Madras, invented the Inflatable Borewell Rescue Device.
The device was inspired by the tragic death of Sujith Wilson, who fell into a borewell in 2019.
The tool uses an air compressor, oxygen source, and a camera to safely extract trapped children.
Sadham received a patent for the device in September 2022, with financial and technical support from his mentor, the late Prof BVSSS Prasad.
The invention aims to address the complex rescue operations required for children trapped in narrow and deep borewells.
