NCPI Claims BJP Alliance for KMC Polls; BJP Disputes Plan
The NCPI says it wants to join the BJP-led NDA for Kolkata’s city elections.
Sudip Bandyopadhyay said senior BJP leaders had agreed to this plan.
A BJP minister had earlier said the BJP would fight the election by itself.
Later, the minister said he did not know about the NCPI’s claim.
He said the BJP state president or chief minister should explain the matter.
Some BJP members are worried about working with the NCPI.
They say NCPI lawmakers were part of the Trinamool Congress until May.
The disagreement means it is not clear whether the two parties will campaign together.
The election is for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
NCPI MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said his party would contest Kolkata’s civic polls as an NDA constituent.
Bandyopadhyay said senior BJP leaders had confirmed the proposed arrangement.
BJP minister Sukanta Majumdar previously said the party would contest the elections alone.
Majumdar later said he had no information and referred the issue to senior BJP leaders.
