Indigenous Anti-Submarine Ship Mangrol to Join Navy in Mumbai

The Indian Navy is preparing to add a new ship called Mangrol to its fleet.

The ship is scheduled to be commissioned on October 12 in Mumbai.

It was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited and more than 80% of it is made with Indian content.

Mangrol is designed to find and help counter submarines in coastal and shallow waters.

It has sonar and other equipment to help detect underwater threats.

It can also support surveillance and some mine-warfare-related tasks.

The ship is named after a coastal town in Gujarat.

Its addition is intended to strengthen the Navy's ability to protect ports, harbours and coastal waters.
