Hong Kong records 39.8°C as Typhoon Dolphin drives extreme heat

Hong Kong got super, super hot on Sunday.

The temperature reached 39.8 degrees Celsius, the hottest it has ever been there.

That is hotter than 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

The old record was 36.6 degrees, set back in 2017.

A big storm called Typhoon Dolphin caused this heat.

The storm stayed far away in eastern China, but it pushed hot, heavy air over Hong Kong.

This made the city feel like a giant oven.

The weather office told people to drink water and stay out of the sun.

Many neighborhoods, like Sheung Shui and Wong Tai Sin, were extremely hot too.

Scientists say warm ocean water is making storms stronger, and the hot weather may last a few more days.
