CoA Issues Nationwide Notice Against Unregistered Architects Professionals
The Council of Architecture, a government body that keeps track of who can call themselves an architect, sent out a big notice on August 2, 2026.
It said that only people who are officially registered can use the word "Architect" in India.
If someone pretends to be an architect without being registered, they can be sent to court.
The notice also told everyone to check the Council’s website to make sure a person is really registered before hiring them.
If you see someone using the title wrongly, you can report it to the Council, and your identity will stay private.
CoA released a public notice on Aug 2, 2026 warning against misuse of the title "Architect."
Only individuals registered under the Architects Act, 1972 may legally use the title anywhere in India.
Unregistered persons or entities using the title face prosecution under Sections 36 and 37 of the Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The notice urges the public, government bodies, and developers to verify registration via the CoA website before hiring.
Complaints about unauthorized use can be filed through the CoA complaint portal, with complainant identity kept confidential.
